PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) This weekend marks 37 years since the first hot air balloon lifted off at the Plano balloon festival. Jo Via is the executive director of the festival and she says this year is special because of the number of “shaped” balloons this year. Many Texans are leery of hot air balloons since the deadly crash in July south of Austin. But Via says balloons at the festival will be tethered and don’t pose the same danger to riders. The festival runs through 7 tonight.
