Local Activist Speaks Out After Dallas Human Trafficking Arrest

DallasPoliceDepartmentDallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A local anti-human trafficking activist is speaking out after Dallas police arrested two men on trafficking of a minor and forced prostitution of a minor charges this week. Dallas police said the victim told them she allegedly met the men through a social media app.

Refuge City founder Barbara Rodriguez said she is not surprised. She said parents need to learn about the potential dangers of social media and warn their children. “Strangers reaching out to them on Facebook on all of the other apps they have… do not give any information out about your location your phone number,” said Rodriguez.

Rodriquez said most of the pimps offer the victim money and freedom but the reality is a nightmare. “They are malnourished…they are abused…beaten…they have diseases because they promise them everything but they don’t get any money. They literally become trapped in this lifestyle”, said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez said once a minor falls victim to a trafficker, it is very difficult to get out. Texas ranks second in the nation for human trafficking cases.
