Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – Southern Methodist University is mourning Officer Mark McCullers, whose car was washed into Turtle Creek in a flash flood on July 5th. SMU Police Chief Rick Shafer spoke at the memorial, citing McCullers’ long list of accomplishments, both in the Marine Corps and civilian law enforcement.
“It was my pleasure, on February 12th, 2015, to commission Mark as Peace Officer for SMU,” said Shafer. “It was a joyous occasion for Mark and his family, because once again, he’d done what he set out to do.”
The day after he disappeared, McCullers’ car was pulled from Turtle Creek, a couple of hundred yards from where it was washed away. He had been working an off-duty job at a construction site. No trace of him has been found since.
