Texas Records 2nd Most Lightning Claims in U.S.

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas residents filed the second most lightning claims in the country, according to State Farm. The insurance company paid out over $17 million in 2015 to Texas customers who had lightning strike damage. The average claim was more than $9,500. Georgia led the nation with the most lightning related insurance claims. No lightning strike claims were reported in Alaska, which came in last on the list. Lightning strikes can lead to fires and serious damage to electrical appliances and computer equipment. State Farm says most lightning claims are surge or power related.
