10 Pregnant Dallas County Women May Have Zika

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – The number of confirmed cases of Zika in Dallas County stands at nine, but that could double.

“We’re tracking 10 pregnant women with possible Zika infection,” said Dallas County Health and Human Services Director Zac Thompson.  “But no confirmation has been made at this time.  Testing was performed at the Dallas County Health and Human Services laboratory, and sent to CDC for additional testing.”

Thompson says all of those 10 cases are people who traveled to Zika hot spot countries and brought it back.  Zika can also be spread by sexual contact with an infected person.

He recommends anyone planning to travel to a Zika hot spot country, to Brazil for the Olympics for instance, to talk with their doctor before leaving.  That goes especially for                                                                         pregnant women.  Thompson says if you do go, be sure to use bug repellent, and take other precautions like limiting your time outdoors at night.
