MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF News) – A 911 dispatcher is being credited with using new technology to help a 14-year-old boy who called for help while having a heatstroke.
“I need an ambulance,” the boy told Dispatcher Christy Russell. On the 911 call, you can hear her trying to find out where the boy is located and she eventually determines he’s outside.
Russell used the latitude/longitude tools in the 911 system to pinpoint the boy’s location and get an ambulance to him.
Paramedics found cleats near the boy and believe he was walking home after taking part in some sort of sports workout.
Mesquite Police Chief Charles Cato commended Russell in a post on Facebook. “Being a Public Safety Dispatcher is a stressful job. We could not be more proud of Christy and the poise she displayed in getting this caller the help he desperately needed.”
