Two More Zika Cases Confirmed in Dallas Co.

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) is reporting the eighth and ninth cases of Zika virus.

One patient was a 15-year-old who recently traveled to Honduras and El Salvador.  The other case involves a 61-year-old from Garland who was infected during a trip to Guatemala.

There have been nearly 45 cases of Zika across the state, and about half of them have been in North Texas.  All of the patients contracted the virus while traveling outside of the country.

The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting several days to a week, according to DCHHS.

There is no specific medication available to treat Zika and there is not a vaccine.
