LAS COLINAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County is doing well, but it could use some work when it comes to property taxes. That’s one of the main points in County Judge Clay Jenkins’ State of the County address.
He wants cities and other taxing districts to resist the temptation to hike property taxes, in the wake of recent property valuations that have been through the roof.
“Every entity budgeted for some percentage of growth, but nothing like we’re actually seeing with these home appraisals,” said Jenkins. “So I’m just saying go back to what you budgeted for.”
Middle class property owners didn’t get 10% pay raises this year, so they shouldn’t get 10% property tax increases, he said.
Jenkins says he will ask all of the cities and taxing districts to keep the middle class taxpayer in mind, and especially those who rent, and therefore don’t build equity in their homes.
