TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Tarrant County Health Department says there are two new cases of the Zika virus being reported.
That brings the total number of cases in Tarrant County to three. The County’s Health Department Director, Vinny Taneja, says if a mosquito bites one of the new patients, it could carry the virus and infect someone else with Zika.
“We need to make sure that these individuals are educated on protecting against mosquitos by using deet or another mosquito repellant.”
He adds the health department is giving out Zika home care kits to anyone who has the virus to educate them about not spreading it.
The virus can be spread from mosquito bites or sexually. Mild symptoms can last up to seven days. The concern about the virus is for women who are pregnant or planning to become pregant, because it can cause birth efects in her baby.
