DENTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – Denton County Sheriff William B. Travis was upset by Tracy Murphree in Tuesday’s election.
Travis was elected sheriff in 2012. Fellow officeholders and voters questioned Travis’ actions in his personal and professional life.
Murphree will automatically become sheriff because there was no Democratic candidate.
Murphree has a lengthy career in law enforcement. He was commissioned as a State Trooper in 1988, and was assigned to Cochran and Hockley counties. He transferred to Denton County in 1993. Murphree was promoted to sergeant and stationed in Pecos. In 1996, he was promoted into the Texas DPS Narcotics Service and moved to Houston. Murphree was selected a Texas Ranger in Denton and Cooke counties in 1998.
