Dallas City Manager: “I Share the Community’s Concern about the Rising Crime Rate”

T.C. Broadnax

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax responded this week to the Mayor’s request that a crime reduction plan be presented to the City Council in January.

The letter sent by Mayor Eric Johnson asked that the plan be submitted by the end of this year.

“I hereby request that you instruct the police department to produce a comprehensive, written plan to reduce violent crime in Dallas,” the letter read. “This plan should include clear and numerical violent crime reduction goals and timeliness, specific strategies for achieving these reductions, and an analysis of the trends and drivers of violent crime in our city.”

Dallas, for the first time in years, is nearing 200 murders in a calendar year.

“As the City Manager, I share the community’s concern and frustration about the rising crime rate,” said Broadnax. “Chief Hall and the Dallas Police Department have implemented some important initiatives to fight these trends, but I don’t believe that it has been organized into a comprehensive citywide plan.”

The City Manager vowed to work with the Chief to develop a crime reduction plan that “we all can understand and embrace.”

“I look forward to presenting this comprehensive plan and working with the Mayor, the City Council, and the Chief to ensure it will be a blueprint to drive change and make Dallas a model city for fighting crime,” Broadnax said.
