Arlington Police Warn Parents of New ‘Kidnapping Scam’

Arlington, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Arlington police say they’ve been getting reports of yet another attempt to scam folks out of their money. The latest, according to police Lieutenant Chris Cook is targets parents via their cell phones by wanna-be thieves looking to extort money by telling them their children have been kidnapped.

“The have the name or names of your children and typically it’s from parents that have public social media profiles and so they’re kind of digging into your Facebook or Instagram feed and they claim they have kidnapped your child.”

Parents are told withdraw money – up to 6-thousand dollars in some cases.

And, the call may include two people with a second person attempting to sound like the child.

Cook says always call police if you get such calls.
