CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) – New Zealand health authorities say 48 people with gunshot wounds are being treated at Christchurch Hospital after mass shootings at two mosques killed 49 people.
They say the patients range from young children to adults and the injuries range from minor to critical. Twelve operating theaters are being used and some patients will need multiple surgeries.
President Trump tweeted his sympathies to the victims this morning:
My warmest sympathy and best wishes goes out to the people of New Zealand after the horrible massacre in the Mosques. 49 innocent people have so senselessly died, with so many more seriously injured. The U.S. stands by New Zealand for anything we can do. God bless all!

About 200 family members are at the hospital early Saturday awaiting news about their loved ones.
Here at home, the Islamic Association of North Texas tweeted its shock and sympathies in the wake of the tragic event.
We’re speechless after hearing of the acts of terror that unfolded recently in a New Zealand mosque, with many worshippers reported injured or deceased. We pray that Allah SWT (God) grants those who passed away… https://t.co/ST2oz3j2We
