Texas Rangers Investigating Apartment Shooting Involving Dallas Police Officer

Dallas, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Police say a manslaughter warrant is coming for an Officer involved in a fatal shooting Thursday night.

The Officer had just finished her shift and went to her South Side Flats apartment building where she allegedly entered the wrong unit and shot a man inside. The incident happened just blocks from police headquarters on Lamar St in Dallas. Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall said Friday afternoon that 26-year-old Botham Jean was killed in the shooting.

“I have spoken with the Jean family,” said Chief Hall. “Our condolences have been given to them.”

Hall said the Texas Rangers are taking over the investigation.

“In order for us to be truly transparent to this community, given the circumstances, we have invited the Texas Rangers to conduct this investigation.”

Hall said investigators obtained a blood sample from the Officer to determine if she had been using drugs or alcohol. The investigation is ongoing.
