JAZZ w/Lon Dorsey
Lon Dorsey has been singing since age 3 when he sang and danced at his mother’s cafe, “Kathy’s Marine Grill,” in South-East Dallas for nickels and dimes. He grew up with Lou Rawls, and is a fast friend with all of Lou Rawls’ family, working on a book with Lana Rawls, wife and mother of Lou’s children Lou Rawls, Jr. and Louanna Rawls; and a subsequent movie, ”The Real Lou Rawls Story” by Lana Rawls. Lon will be featured singing in the movie which is scheduled to come out next year and distributed world wide. Lou Rawls, Jr. was a regular on Lon’s Business & Law Show on 570 KLIF, and Lon is now Lou, Jr.’s Uncle and mentoring him. Lou, Jr. did his first show in Las Vegas in March 2017.
Lon as sung with many of the great bands in Dallas for decades, and headlined with Big Al Dupree at North Dallas Clubs with whom he created the well-received music show, “Life’s Musical Moments” on KAAM 620 AM Radio, he was lead singer for Bill Tillman, and toured with Grammy winner Larry T-Byrd Gordon doing Lou Rawls music. Lon sings and sounds like Lou Rawls naturally, and even looks like him. He is a regular on Facebook, and is Founder and CEO of the Official Lou Rawls Fan Club on Facebook. His music can be heard on Reverbnation as well as on YouTube and other social media. http://www.reverbnation.com/booking4lon
Lon and his Jazz & Blues Band can be heard weekly at Casa Cavazos as he does a Tribute to Lou Rawls at 5409 N. Jim Miller Road, Dallas, Texas 75227 where Lana Rawls and son Lou Rawls, Jr. are regulars at Lon’s performances, along with many artists, celebrities and elite patrons coming from as far as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and from all over the Country. The restaurant is actually on the Samuell Blvd. side of the intersection, directly across from the KFC Restaurant. He has done many hours of studio recording on numerous albums and singles of other artists.
Lon is in appreciating demand all over the Country at this time, and is creating a new single to be released next year. To book his band call (713) 530-8188 or email a_rosco_music@yahoo.com.
Lon Dorsey, Radio Talk Host since the 1970’s, is very articulate, humorous and has likely spoken with more attorneys on radio and television than any other show host in America.
Very popular in the 1990’s on 570 AM KLIF, Lon returns with 30 years of shows under his belt and said to be the “Father of Law Talk in America,” by late Attorney Herschell Barnes, former Administrator of Haynes & Boone Law Firm; having been the first host to regularly entertain attorneys on his shows, even before they could advertise without the approval from their bar when he created, “The Law & You”.
Born in Dallas, Lon was near the top of his class of 463 students of James Madison High School, attended most of the community colleges in the area, as well as University of Texas at Dallas. He created many newspapers, magazines, his own talk show formats that didn’t exist before including many types of show programming, titled a “journeyman producer” by the Dallas Observer.
Lon is a loyal American, did active duty in the United States Air Force, and has a great creative mind, has a strong faith in God, believes in family as the building block for a strong society. His father, Lon, Sr., was a working man, who was a prize fighter/boxer and served in the U.S. Navy, and in a military family that proudly served America.
He has had many radio and television shows over more than 30 years in broadcasting, but feels that his best shows are yet to come. He has gained the respect of the Texas legal professionals as well as the general business community nationwide. Lon looks and sounds much like Lou Rawls, the singing sensation, who was like a brother,
and is now working to build a venue in Dallas/Ft. Worth that will house his orchestra and do Lou Rawls tributes with his son, Lou Rawls, Jr. to whom Lon is like an uncle now.
