Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Uvalde police took four suspects in custody in connection to a gang-related shooting at a city park Thursday eveing. Officers responded to calls of a shooting at Uvalde Memorial Park at about 5:30pm where two victims were shot. According to KSAT in San Antonio, the victims were a 22-year-old and a juvenile. Both were conscious and airlifted to San Antonio Memorial Hosptial.
The four were taken into custody after seeking medical attention at a Uvalde hospital after the shooting. Police assure the community that this is “not a dangerous situation for the general public.” In addition, Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement in the wake of the shooting, pledging to send an additional six DPS officers to patrol gang hotspots.
“I was outraged to learn that gang violence has endangered the Uvalde community and innocent Texans this evening. I immediately called Mayor McLaughlin and County Judge Mitchell to offer the state’s full support and resources as law enforcement hunts down the gang members.
The shooting comes amid continued fears about safety over 3 months after a school shooting in Uvalde claimed the lives of 19 children and 2 teachers.
