DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Federal, state, and local leaders celebrated the completion of a recent TXDOT project west of Downtown Dallas on Monday.
The Lowest Stemmons Project constructed new collector-distributor lanes, which parallels I-35E, and is intended give drivers a safer path to and from Woodall Rogers Freeway and the Dallas North Tollway. The $83 million improvement project runs on I-35 E between I-30 and Oak Lawn Avenue. It’s part of Texas Clear Lane Projects statewide.
“This corridor was identified as one of the most congested in the state and has about a quarter million vehicles moving through it daily with an average speed of about 12 miles per hour.” Dallas District Engineer Mo Bur, P.E. said. “We found a solution to construct these dedicated connectors without needing to acquire a square inch of right of way.”
With traffic routed more efficiently, TXDOT expects average corridor speeds to rise to around 50 miles per hour.
Other Texas Clear Lane Projects currently underway in Dallas include I-635 LBJ East, I-35E/US 67 Southern Gateway, I-30 East, and the Irving Interchange.
