AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Texas Department of State Health Services is asking vaccine providers in Texas to halt administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine following a recommendation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration early Tuesday.
The agencies said their decision is based on reports of blood clots in women 6 to 13 days after receiving the vaccine.
DSHS said more than 500,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have been administered in Texas and non of the cases of blood clots reported have occurred in Texas.
Shortly after the announcement, North Texas providers began making changes to their vaccination schedules Tuesday in compliance with the stoppage.
The Arlington Fire Department announced its planned administration of the vaccine at the Community Vaccination Center at AT & T stadium had been scrapped but they are administering second doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
The City of Dallas and the Visiting Nurses Association of Texas paused their in home vaccinations that were supposed to kick off today.
Due to today’s announcement from the CDC and FDA regarding the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the City of Garland Health Department is canceling today’s afternoon mass vaccination event at Johnson Stadium (originally scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m.).
