Austin, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – While the spotlight has been the Texas attorney general’s lawsuit challenging election results in 4 battleground states, federal agents served at least one subpoena on Ken Paxton‘s office this week; the move is in connection with the ongoing investigation into allegations that he abused his authority by helping a friend and campaign donor.
The Austin American Statesman reports that 3 sources confirmed to the publication and ABC-affiliate KVUE-TV that subpoenas were delivered to Paxton’s Austin office, and that the sources did not what information FBI agents sought.
Paxton has been accuse of bribery by former top aids. Federal authorities are investigating claims that he used his position to help Austin investor Nate Paul, whose offices were raided by the FBI last year.
Paxton said in a statement Thursday evening: “At all times, as in every matter, I ask my staff only to search for the truth, wherever it leads. That’s my responsibility as Attorney General of Texas.”
Paxton is also under federal indictment for securities fraud in a case that spans over 5 years.
