DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Two recent car jacking’s have prompted Dallas Police to remind people to be aware of their surroundings.
In both cases, Police say a man tried to open car doors in a store parking lot until he found one unlocked. He climbed in the backset and waited for the driver to come back, when they did he held them at gunpoint and forced them to an ATM machine and robbed them. Deputy Chief Thomas Castro says people should always be alert.
“Look out in the parking lot and scan,” said Castro. “If you see someone approaching you then go back into the business.”
On Sunday, an unknown Hispanic male suspect entered the victim’s unlocked car in the Walgreen’s parking lot on Ross Avenue. When the man go in his car and sat down in the driver seat, the victim noticed the suspect kneeling down in the back seat. The suspect grabbed the victim from behind, and forced him at gunpoint to drive to two banks and withdraw money. The suspect forced the victim to drive to two more locations to withdraw money from his account, but the victim had reached his maximum withdrawal amount. The suspect made the victim drive to his residence. Once they arrived at the victim’s residence, the suspect made the victim exit his vehicle and drove off in the victim’s car.
The suspect is described as an Hispanic male with brown eyes and wearing a black ski mask, black hoodie sweat shirt with white long sleeve underneath. The draw strings on the hoodie was pulled tightly around his face with only the eyes being visible. The suspect was wearing red gloves. The victim was not injured during this incident. The Dallas Police Department’s Robbery Unit is conducting the follow-up investigation. Police say a similar crime happened on January 20.
Castro said the driver of the stolen vehicle has been arrested in Kansas. The investigation is ongoing.
