Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Former State Senator and Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson is running for his old job. He announced Monday he had filed to enter the 2018 Republican Primary race against incumbent George P. Bush.
“Today, I am formally announcing my campaign for Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office,” Patterson said, “because it is time that we restore transparency and integrity to the management of the agency and all it oversees, including the Shrine of Texas liberty, the Alamo.”
“When George P. Bush took over as Commissioner three years ago, I believed, like so many others, that he shared my passion for the Texas General Land Office and the Alamo,” Patterson said. “Sadly, this has not been the case. Consequently, instead of standing here today praising George P. Bush for his leadership, I am compelled to run against him.”
Patterson revealed that he had sought an opponent for Bush for months before finally agreeing to seek the office himself.
