Austin (WBAP/KLIF News) – Governor Greg Abbott has activated the State Operations Center to prepare for Tropical Storm Cindy. Cindy is expected to make landfall Thursday morning near the Texas-Louisiana border.
“As we have learned in the past, weather patterns can change rapidly and without warning,” the governor wrote in a statement.
The increased state of readiness puts rescue crews from the Texas National Guard on standby, as well as feeding teams and the Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Task Force.
Tropical Storm Cindy is not expected to strengthen much more, but the National Weather Service says the storm could drop six inches of rain as far inland as Tyler. Farther east, more than ten inches could fall along the Gulf Coast of Alabama and Mississippi.
Tropical storm warnings include the Houston area. Flash flood watches stretch north into Tyler and Shreveport.
