DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Police in Dallas are stepping up security ahead of Pride Week.
Officers are increasing their presence in the Oak Lawn and Cedar Springs areas.
The move comes after a string of violent assaults. Police are investigating some of them as hate crimes. Eight additional officers were assigned to patrol the area every night. Over the past nine months, several high-definition surveillance cameras have been installed. Police said it has helped diminish crime and improve community relations.
A large chunk of money spent for police overtime came from Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban. He donated $1 million to DPD after the attack at a nightclub in Orlando.
Pride Week events kick off on Tuesday.
