Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Scams are popping up across North Texas, saying they’re raising money for the families of the Dallas police officers killed and wounded in the July 7th shooting. But watch out…they could be out for your money or personal information.
“You gotta do your research first, or you could be a victim yourself,” said Phylissia Landix, with the Better Business Bureau of Dallas and North Texas. “Someone could defraud you out of your money, or you could be a victim of ID theft if they get ahold of your computer, so we definitely say check the charities out first.”
The BBB has a tool called “scam tracker” which you can use to research charities and other funds. Landix says the best way to donate money to the families is to give directly to them, and eliminate the middle man altogether.
