A newly posted video on the verified Shawn Ryan Clips channel highlights Father Chad Ripperger’s comments about displeasure among some Vatican personnel, following the announcement of his one-year pause from public speaking and interviews.
The video is titled “Exorcist Reveals Why Powerful Church Leaders Want Him Gone.”
The excerpt comes from Ryan’s interview with the Catholic priest and exorcist published March 5, more than seven months before the Archdiocese of Denver announced the pause Monday.
The clip presents earlier comments and does not establish why Denver Archbishop James R. Golka requested the pause.
What Ripperger said about his work
Ripperger told Ryan that he did not know the specific names of people working in the Vatican who were unhappy with his work. He described his role as teaching the faith and helping people grow in their understanding of it.
He also alleged that some Church leaders were “very morally compromised” and involved in “stuff that’s very dark.” He attributed his account to information he said emerged during exorcisms. He did not name the officials he was discussing in the exchange. The Dallas Express has not independently verified those allegations.
Asked whether he felt responsible for exposing or fixing the problems he described, Ripperger said he needed to “defend my own foxhole.”
“I feel my duty is to continue processing the cases,” Ripperger told Ryan.
Archdiocese says Ripperger remains in good standing
The archdiocese confirmed by email that Ripperger “remains a priest in good standing,” OSV News reported.
In its October 19 statement, the archdiocese said Golka asked Ripperger to consider a year away from public speaking and interviews so he could devote himself to the Society of the Most Sorrowful Mother and the people it serves.
The statement said Ripperger readily agreed and that the two would review the arrangement after a year. It also expressed Golka’s gratitude for Ripperger’s priestly service and exorcism ministry. The statement announced no misconduct finding.
As The Dallas Express previously reported, co-founder Sarah Zubiate-Bennett contacted the archdiocese October 19 seeking further explanation. A representative who returned her call referred her to the public statement and said no further information was available, according to Zubiate-Bennett.
The Dallas Express continues to seek firsthand accounts from readers whose faith has been influenced by Ripperger’s ministry. Send your account, relevant details and supporting documentation to news@dallasexpress.org or 469-210-8445, extension 101.
