A suspect wanted in connection with a Plano homicide investigation died Monday after a high-speed chase and standoff shut down Interstate 35 near Sanger and Valley View, authorities said.
Valley View police received a call around 10 a.m. requesting assistance with a Texas Department of Public Safety pursuit moving north on I-35 through Denton County, the department said in a social media post.
DPS said troopers tried to stop the driver of a Dodge Charger. The suspect fired at troopers and continued fleeing, according to the agency.
During the chase, the suspect’s vehicle crashed and caught fire, igniting a grass fire in the median of the highway and forcing the closure of traffic in both directions.
The suspect was pronounced dead, authorities said. The person’s identity and the circumstances surrounding the death have not been released.

Plano police confirmed the pursuit was tied to a homicide reported Sunday night on Lakestream Drive, near Parker Road and Alma Drive.
Investigators say that a man fatally shot his ex-girlfriend at the home around 10 p.m. and then fled in the Dodge Charger. The victim’s family members at the home were able to identify the suspect to police, who then began searching for the suspect’s vehicle. A hit on the vehicle Monday morning led to the attempted traffic stop and police chase.
Police have not publicly identified the victim or the suspect.
The interstate remained closed for several hours as law enforcement processed the scene and cleared the wreckage. Motorists were urged to avoid the area.
