A drug suspect was taken into custody early Wednesday after a standoff with Richardson police that began with a brief vehicle pursuit and ended when the man barricaded himself inside a backyard shed.
The incident started around 11 p.m. on Tuesday when Richardson Police Department officers attempted to stop a suspect wanted in a narcotics investigation. Police said the driver refused to pull over, prompting a short chase.
The suspect eventually stopped in the 100 block of West Shore Place and ran into the backyard of a home, where he barricaded himself inside a shed, according to police.
SWAT officers took the man into custody around 1 a.m., according to Fox 4 KDFW. Officers reported finding narcotics on the suspect and in his vehicle.
He faces charges of evading arrest and manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance. Richardson police have not released the suspect’s name or booking photo.
Video shared on social media by Sandy Romo showed more than a dozen police vehicles arriving on the dead-end street during the response.
“Crazy night on West Shore drive in Richardson tonight. Hoping our brave Richardson Police Department officers stay safe and catch whoever they are after,” Romo said. “Rifles out, flashlights out, creek is being searched.”
Richardson police are continuing the investigation.
