The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled roughly 250,000 Cooluli mini fridges after determining that the appliances’ electrical switches can short-circuit, creating fire and burn hazards for consumers.
The recall covers the 10-liter and 15-liter Infinity, Classic, Glow Beauty and Vibe Series models. The affected units feature an internal power supply and two power input ports, both AC and DC, on the back of the unit rather than a single DC port.
The recalled fridges were sold in black, blue, green, white, and red, as well as in versions with multicolored patterns, photos, and logos. Included batch numbers are 1535 through 1545 and 1200000 through 1202080, which appear on a printed label inside the door.
The manufacturer, Ningbo Iceberg Electronic Appliance Co., Ltd., of China, has received at least 19 reports of the mini fridges smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, or catching fire, the CPSC said. Those incidents have caused more than $80,000 in property damage, and one person reported a smoke inhalation injury.
The CPSC is urging consumers to stop using the recalled units immediately.
Owners can visit Cooluli.com and enter the model and batch numbers to check whether their appliance is part of the recall. Those with a recalled unit will be told to unplug the fridge, cut the power cord and send photos to Cooluli showing the model and batch numbers.
Cooluli will then send a free replacement DC power cord along with a permanent sticker to cover the AC port, the agency said.
Over the past year, mini refrigerators by Galanz Americas, Curtis International Frigidaire, and Epoca have been recalled due to fire and burn risks.
