A single ticket sold in Illinois matched all six numbers in the August 12 Powerball drawing to win an estimated $1.04 billion jackpot, lottery officials said.
The jackpot is the eighth largest in the game’s history and the largest so far this year and has an estimated cash value of $450.5 million.
The winning numbers were 4, 26, 66, 67 and 69, with a red Powerball of 9. The Power Play multiplier was 2.
Lottery officials urged players to check their tickets, noting that four tickets worth $1 million were sold in Arizona, California, Florida and North Carolina by matching five of the white ball numbers. A fifth ticket matched all five white balls and included the Power Play option, winning a player in Massachusetts $2 million. In total, more than 3 million tickets won cash prizes in the drawing by matching at least one of the winning numbers.
“Congratulations to our newest Powerball jackpot winner in Illinois,” said Stephen Durrell, chair of the Powerball Product Group and executive director of the Kansas Lottery, in a news release.
“For more than three decades, Powerball has shown that a winning ticket can be sold anywhere the game is played, giving every $2 ticket the chance to change not only a winner’s life, but generations to come. As participation continues to grow across markets, players are helping fuel larger jackpots and create even greater excitement for the game.”
The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday night. The jackpot will reset to $20 million.
Powerball drawings are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee, Florida. Each play costs $2, and jackpot winners can choose between a lump-sum cash payment or annual payments spread over 29 years.
The Illinois win marks the sixth Powerball jackpot claimed in 2026. Earlier winners this year were drawn in North Carolina, Arkansas, Delaware, Indiana, and Kansas, and a shared prize split between Florida and Texas, officials said.
This most recent jackpot run was the first to include players from the United Kingdom. Powerball ticket sales launched in the UK on July 21.
“With UK players now participating, the expanded player base is expected to help accelerate jackpot growth and increase the potential for larger jackpots,” Powerball said in a news release.
