The woman who accused the Plano Police Department of failing to properly investigate an alleged stalking incident says she is now seeing justice after the suspect pleaded guilty.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the Plano Police Department initially treated a July 9, 2025, incident involving independent journalist Breanna Morello as a case of flirting after a man followed her up a private staircase at her apartment complex. Morello has maintained that the investigation only intensified after surveillance footage of the encounter went viral.
According to Morello, the man ignored her repeated demands to leave before retreating after she drew her firearm.
The suspect, Harvy Barsoom, has now pleaded guilty.
Following the guilty plea, Morello criticized the Plano Police Department’s handling of the case, arguing officers failed to take her concerns seriously from the beginning.
“I am thankful for the Collin County District Attorney’s Office for taking this case on. Unfortunately, the Plano Police Department did not take it seriously,” Morello told The Dallas Express.
“Every resident needs to be aware that Plano not only attempted to block an investigation from happening but also turned away another victim from reporting the crime at their police station. I strongly believe that Ed Drain and Officer Ken Mings are not competent for the position they currently hold,” Morello added.
Morello also weighed in on Barsoom’s decision to plead guilty, saying she believes the plea avoided a more public airing of the evidence.
“I’m glad Harvy Barsoom has pleaded guilty today. He is only pleading guilty to avoid multiple other victims from testifying and from the footage from entering the courtroom,” she said.
She pointed to what she described as another indication of the seriousness of Barsoom’s conduct.
“He was banned from the Stonebriar Mall. I’ve never heard of an entire mall banning one person. That’s how far he took things.”
The experience, Morello said, reinforced her belief that women should be prepared to defend themselves.
“Women in Texas need to be on high alert at all times and make sure they’re well trained in self-defense. My firearm saved my life,” she said.
The case has continued to draw widespread attention online. A video Morello posted detailing the incident has now surpassed one million views.
“The Plano Police Department BLOCKED an investigation into a man who was allegedly stalking women in our area,” Morello wrote on X. “That man followed me into my home and wouldn’t leave until I pulled my gun on him. Today I am releasing body camera footage, audio recordings, internal emails, and details that expose the @PlanoPoliceDept for their role in protecting this predator.”
The Dallas Express reached out to the Plano Police Department for comment regarding Morello’s allegations but did not receive a response before publication.
