Whataburger is celebrating a Texas-born tradition this August as the San Antonio-based restaurant chain begins its 76th anniversary celebration on Saturday, August 1.
The company announced a month-long series of promotions, including app-exclusive offers for Whataburger Rewards members, as it marks more than seven decades since the first restaurant opened in Corpus Christi in 1950.
The anniversary celebration will continue throughout August, with additional promotions planned ahead of National Whataburger Day on August 8.
From Corpus Christi Burger Stand to Texas Icon
Whataburger was founded by Harmon Dobson, who opened the first restaurant on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi on August 8, 1950. The company later moved its headquarters to San Antonio and expanded beyond Texas while maintaining its identity as a Texas-founded brand.
According to the company’s official press materials, Whataburger now operates more than 1,100 restaurants across 17 states and employs more than 51,000 people.
The company credits its growth to its made-to-order menu, recognizable orange-and-white restaurant design, and longtime customer following.
Anniversary Deals Begin in August
As part of the celebration, Whataburger announced several promotions available through its mobile app for members of the Whataburger Rewards program.
According to the company’s official announcement, customers can receive limited-time anniversary offers throughout the month, including 76-cent promotions on select Whataburger Wednesdays and a buy-one-get-one offer tied to National Whataburger Day.
“Throughout August, every Whataburger Wednesday brings another 76-cent surprise, available exclusively in the Whataburger App (all local times):

Aug. 8: Buy One, Get One Whataburger (entrée only), 11 a.m.–8 p.m.
Aug. 12: 76-cent 16-ounce Whatafresher, 11 a.m.–8 p.m.

The company said promotions are available only through participating locations and require use of the Whataburger app.
National Whataburger Day Returns August 8
The company’s anniversary celebration will continue with National Whataburger Day on Saturday, August 8.
Whataburger announced that Rewards members will be eligible for a buy-one-get-one Whataburger offer on that day during the specified promotional period.
The annual celebration has become an opportunity for the company to recognize longtime customers while highlighting its history in Texas and across the country.
A Texas Brand With a Growing Footprint
Although Whataburger began as a single Corpus Christi restaurant, the company has expanded into a multistate operation while maintaining its Texas roots.
The company’s official history notes that its original goal was to serve a burger large enough to require two hands and memorable enough that customers would say, “What a burger!” after the first bite.
Today, the chain continues operating restaurants throughout Texas, including locations across North Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The anniversary celebration comes as Whataburger continues to invest in customer promotions and brand growth while preserving the identity that made it a recognizable Texas company.
