A Collin County jury sentenced a Frisco man to 50 years in prison after finding him guilty of ambushing an armed security officer with a machete inside the Islamic Center of Frisco.
The jury convicted Malik Charles Anthony Davis, 27, of aggravated assault against a security officer, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis (R-Collin County) announced Tuesday. It also convicted Davis of theft of a firearm and sentenced him to 180 days in a state jail facility.
Prosecutors said Davis began attending the Islamic Center in early 2025 and told members he was homeless and needed food and occasional shelter. The congregation provided both.
Surveillance video captured the attack
On June 7, 2025, the victim, an armed security officer and member of the center, believed he was alone inside the building. Davis concealed himself in a locker room area while dressed in black clothing with a hood covering his face, prosecutors said.
Davis approached the officer from behind and struck him multiple times with a machete. The officer suffered serious injuries, and his firearm fell from its holster during the attack. Davis took the gun and attempted to flee, according to the district attorney’s office.
Frisco police officers detained Davis outside the center and recovered the firearm. The victim suffered large lacerations to his head and one hand. Frisco Fire took him to a hospital, where doctors treated and released him.
Police said the mosque community knew Davis and that he had attended regularly for several months. Authorities did not announce a motive for the attack.
Prosecutors played surveillance footage showing the attack, Davis preparing for it and his movements afterward. The footage also showed Davis changing clothes as he fled to conceal his identity, according to the district attorney’s office.
The victim testified about the ambush and the physical and mental recovery that followed. During the punishment phase, jurors also heard evidence that Davis had threatened to kill his cellmate while he was in the Collin County Jail, according to the district attorney’s office.
“This coward hid in a place of worship that had shown him compassion, then violently ambushed a security officer with a machete and tried to steal his firearm. A Collin County jury sent him to prison for 50 years. We will not tolerate violence against those who protect our community.”
Willis issued the statement through his office after the sentencing.
