Lewisville police are investigating the discovery of a deceased human fetus found along the shoreline of Lewisville Lake.
Authorities received a 911 call around 8 a.m. from a resident who reported finding what appeared to be a discarded and deceased human fetus at Lake Park. Officers responded to the scene, recovered the fetus, and searched the surrounding area for evidence, police said.
The remains were turned over to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Preliminary evidence indicates the fetus was between 5 and 6 months’ gestation and had been “intentionally discarded,” according to the Lewisville Police Department.
Investigators have not determined an identity or identified a person responsible. Police also said it is not yet clear whether the fetus was stillborn or born alive.
The department said the investigation is ongoing and that details may change as more information becomes available.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lewisville Police Det. Craig Holleman at 972-219-3640 or by email at cholleman@cityoflewisville.com. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Denton County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-388-8477 or online at dentoncountycrimestoppers.com.
Police said that the discovery of the fetus was not related to an incident the prior day in which officers were called to investigate a suspicious package in the same area of Lake Park where a pipe bomb was found in May.
