Arlington Pride organizers say the annual event will return in 2027 after this year’s festival was canceled following Arlington’s fight over sexual orientation and “gender identity” language in city policy.
The HELP Center for LGBTQ+ Health announced that planning has begun for Arlington Pride, tentatively scheduled for June 12, 2027, in Arlington.
“WE. ARE. BACK,” Arlington Pride posted on Facebook. “You asked. You showed up. You never stopped believing. Arlington Pride returns June 12, 2027. Let’s make history… again.”
Organizers cite elections
The HELP Center tied the decision to recent local election results, saying Arlington voters chose candidates who supported “welcoming and inclusive” city policies.
“The decision follows a series of local election results that demonstrated strong community support for leaders committed to building welcoming and inclusive Arlington,” the organization stated.
“Throughout the May and June 2026 elections, Arlington voters elected candidates who emphasized unity, respect, and ensuring every resident feels valued,” the statement continued.
Ordinance fight preceded cancellation
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the Arlington City Council voted 5-4 on December 9 to keep suspended portions of a city ordinance related to sexual orientation and “gender identity” off the books.
City officials had warned that reinstating the language could jeopardize more than $60 million in federal funding used for public safety, road improvements, parks, and other city services.
Following that vote, Arlington Pride organizers announced the cancellation of the 2026 event.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Arlington Mayor Jim Ross has expressed support for bringing the festival back.
“I hated to see it be off for a year, but I’m excited to have it back,” Ross said, according to the Arlington Report. “I think it’s important for our community, and I plan on being there to help celebrate Pride, like I always am.”
Prior event drew criticism
Previous Arlington Pride events have drawn criticism from conservative organizations over performances and displays they argued were inappropriate for minors.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Arlington Pride 2025 allowed minors to attend.
Texas Family Project Vice President Sara Gonzales posted videos on X that she said showed drag performers dancing suggestively, touching themselves, and wearing shirts bearing sexually suggestive phrases.
The 2027 event is tentatively scheduled for June 12.
