WFAA reached out to Dallas police, who sent the following statement:
“We are aware of the video circulating on social media. On July 2, 2026, at approximately 11:50 a.m., the Dallas Police Department responded to the Westin at the request of hotel security regarding an individual without event credentials who was attempting to gain access. It was later learned that the individuals weren’t displaying credentials properly, which is a requirement. The situation was resolved on the scene, and DPD met with representatives of the team to address their concerns. The matter has since been resolved.”

Sources told WFAA the department was advised of an uncredited person approaching players, and that the teams have been told repeatedly everyone must be credentialled, which was why the officer approached in the first place. WFAA has reached out to the Egypt soccer team and the Egyptian Consulate for comment.
Hossam Hassan told the Associated Press through a translator the team had accepted an apology from police.
“We are really happy to be here at this tournament and we are satisfied with the security personnel that are accompanying us,” Hossam Hassan said. “I would like to point to the high-level organization we have with us and the level of security we have with us.”
