Arlington (WBAP/KLIF News) – General Motors has broken ground on a campus for warehouses and manufacturing near its plant in Arlington. The facility should open next year.
The supplier park will occupy the site of Six Flags Mall, which closed after a rebranding effort in 2014. The site is across Highway 360 from the plant where GM builds large SUVs.
“It enables us to redevelop a piece of property that was no longer economically viable, transforming an old mall site into a logistics center,” says Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams.
GM plans to hire 850 people. The company says 600 jobs will be relocated to the United States from overseas.
“What better place to say it? We hit the home run in Arlington with General Motors,” says Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley.
General Motors says the plant will save the company money by reducing transportation costs.
