Frisco (WBAP/KLIF News) – The new mayor of Frisco has laid out priorities for his time in office. Jeff Cheney was elected last month to replace Maher Maso, who was finishing his last term.
Cheney laid out nine issues he hopes to address in his first 100 days.
Several issues dealt with transportation and economic development.
“The hot topic today is density and the $5 billion mile and what is Frisco going to grow up to be?” Cheney said. “During my campaign, I talked about a simple concept, which is the focus on quality over quantity of development.”
Cheney says he will try to stir development in Downtown Frisco by making the area more friendly to pedestrians.
“We needed to first have it happen organically. We couldn’t force downtown to become something,” he says. “That’s what’s happening today; you can see it. Our citizens have been craving destinations such as this.”
He also says Frisco should move away from development of apartment complexes in favor of developments that combine residential, offices and retail. He says high rises have a better value for the city and resident.
Cheney says residents of Frisco have also called for a performing arts center. He says he hopes to develop a public-private partnership to build a theater.
