DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Citizens concerned about the future of Fair Park shared their visions at a community wide meeting Monday night.
Craig Holcomb, President of Friends of Fair Park, said opposed to a public forum people were broken into groups with consultants to give their opinions.
“My guess is people said we want more programming for the neighborhoods and the rest of the park,” said Holcomb. “We want to preserve the buildings but we are open to new uses for those buildings.”
The consulting firm will take the visions given by the public and share them with three groups who are bidding to manage and operate Fair Park. People who live close to Fair Park say they want better access, but others say there needs to be more planned programming first.
“If we take the fence tomorrow and don’t provide programming then it hasn’t accomplished anything,” said Holcomb. “What we’ve got to do is programming that brings kids and adults from the neighborhood into the park.”
Holcomb also said that his organization believes keeping the Texas State Fair at Fair Park is crucial in the area’s future.
