RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF)- The Collins-Arapaho Innovation District in Richardson got a new name and brand identity to attract more businesses. The 1,200 acre area has been a job center and hub for technology in the region but Bill Sproull President and CEO of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce said there’s room for more growth and new uses. It’s now called Richardson Innovation Quarter or IQ. Sproull said the name symbolizes the intelligence 
and tech jobs the area offers. “It’s in the heart of the telecom corridor so it has all these great technology and economic assets, companies that are very innovative and has great access to the tech force but there’s still room for more entrepreneurs to come in,” he said. Sproull said this is all part of a revitalization project to bring the area back. “The plans are to make this area more walkable and bike-able to have more green space and to add more restaurants and amenities into the area that don’t exist today,” he said. In December 2019, the Richardson City Council approved a new Collins/Arapaho TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) & Innovation District Form Based Code, following public hearings by the Council and City Plan Commission. Rezoning these sites for higher density development and a variety of uses will help the District be more than just an industrial park, providing the foundation for an innovation-focused, urban mixed-use environment.
It’s located east of US-75 around the Arapaho Dart Station.
