(WBAP/KLIF) — The onset of Coronavirus has intensified the danger zone for first-responders. Among those on the front lines, EMT personnel have a high risk of infection.
Matt Zavadsky with Medstar says EMT’s placed in isolation can make it a challenge to cover necessary shifts. Across the country there have been nearly 13,000 EMT’s exposed to COVID-19 with 6,000 being quarantined.
New York emergency responders are receiving 7,000 calls a day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The call rate is more than twice the norm, which has EMT’s across the country scrambling. Zavadsky says protecting paramedics requires even more time. He praises medical personnel, but worries a similar overload could hit North Texas in coming weeks.
