A Dallas police officer has been fired following an internal investigation into allegations that he fled from officers during a prostitution investigation and later failed to follow a lawful order from a superior.
Senior Cpl. Joshua Gonzalez was terminated Monday after a disciplinary hearing with Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux, according to the Dallas Police Department.
Gonzalez had served with the department since August 2010 and was assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Division.
What Led to the Investigation
The incident occurred on October 8, 2025, near Harry Hines Boulevard, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Dallas officers in a marked patrol vehicle reportedly spotted a black Ford Fusion stopped near two women whom officers believed were involved in prostitution. Police attempted to stop the vehicle after observing an alleged traffic violation.
According to the affidavit, the sedan accelerated after officers activated their emergency lights and did not pull over. Officers followed the vehicle for about 15 seconds before ending the pursuit.
Investigators were later able to determine that the vehicle was registered to the City of Dallas and assigned to the department’s Criminal Intelligence Division.
Police used surveillance video, fleet records, cellphone records, and witness statements to identify Gonzalez as the alleged driver.
The affidavit states investigators believe Gonzalez “intentionally and knowingly evaded detention with a motor vehicle” when he fled from officers attempting to conduct a lawful traffic stop, according to Fox 4 KDFW.
Gonzalez Turned Himself In
A warrant was eventually issued for Gonzalez, who turned himself in at the Dallas County Jail in April 2026 to face the criminal charge, The Dallas Express reported.
He had previously been placed on administrative leave while the department conducted its internal investigation.
The department said Gonzalez’s termination was based on adverse conduct related to his arrest for evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle. Police also said he failed to obey a lawful order from a superior officer.
Officer’s 15-Year Career Ends
Gonzalez had been a member of the Dallas Police Department for nearly 16 years before his termination.
The department did not provide additional details about the disciplinary order in the information released about his firing.
The criminal allegations remain separate from the department’s administrative decision. The arrest affidavit describes the allegations against Gonzalez, while his termination followed the department’s own disciplinary process.
