A man died after an unknown suspect shot him and his pickup truck crashed into Fish Trap Lake in West Dallas late Tuesday, police said.
Dallas police responded at about 11:29 p.m. on August 4 to a shooting call in the 2200 block of Singleton Boulevard. The department’s preliminary investigation found that an unknown suspect shot the man and fled. The wounded driver then drove away before his truck entered the lake near Singleton Boulevard and Fish Trap Road.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded, and the man died at the scene. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will assist in identifying him.
Witnesses describe parking-lot confrontation
Investigators at the scene said the shooting began with an argument between two drivers at a nearby shopping center, FOX 4 reported. Witnesses saw the drivers pull into a parking lot near North Hampton Road and Singleton Boulevard before the confrontation escalated and gunfire erupted.
The wounded man sped away in his pickup but lost consciousness behind the wheel, according to the station. The truck traveled roughly a mile south before entering Fish Trap Lake.
Officers said the suspect got out of a vehicle and shot the victim at point-blank range, CBS Texas reported. Police have not publicly explained what caused the confrontation.
The lake was also the site of a separate police recovery operation in October 2025. Divers pulled eight submerged vehicles from the water during that effort, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Police seek information
Police had not released the victim’s identity, announced an arrest or provided a description of the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle as of August 5. The department listed the case as an ongoing homicide investigation under case number 114013-2026.
