A Dallas Area Rapid Transit police officer was hospitalized Thursday night after being struck by a stray bullet during a shooting near Fair Park, according to authorities.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. on July 30 in the 1400 block of South Trunk Avenue, near DART’s MLK Jr. Station in South Dallas.
According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to an officer-assist call after reports of gunfire in the area. A preliminary investigation found that multiple suspects were shooting when a stray bullet struck the DART officer in the leg.
Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the officer to a hospital, where the officer was reported to be in stable condition.
In a statement, DART spokesperson Jasmyn Carter said the shooting occurred off DART property, according to CBS News.
“The shooting near MLK Station occurred off DART property. A Transit Security Officer was injured in the shooting. No DART passengers or other employees were injured. Dallas PD is the investigating agency.”
Authorities have not released the officer’s identity.
Police have also not identified any suspects or disclosed what led to the shooting.
No arrests had been made as of Friday morning, and investigators said the case remains active.
