An Irving man and a woman from Mexico received federal prison sentences for a cocaine trafficking conspiracy that moved more than 5 kilograms of the drug from Mexico into the Eastern District of Texas and beyond, federal prosecutors announced Monday.
Jonathan Guerra, 30, of Irving, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine. U.S. District Judge Sean D. Jordan sentenced him July 10, 2026, to 57 months in federal prison.
Laura Loera-Flores, 38, of Mexico, pleaded guilty to the same charge and received a 60-month federal prison sentence from Jordan.
Federal court orders show Jordan formally found both defendants guilty October 6, 2025, after adopting recommendations from a magistrate judge who handled their plea proceedings.
According to information presented in court, Guerra and Loera-Flores joined others in trafficking cocaine from Mexico into the Eastern District of Texas and other areas.
Prosecutors said Loera-Flores repeatedly drove concealed drug proceeds from the United States into Mexico so traffickers could collect profits from the illegal drug trade. During one trip, law enforcement found her with 10 bundles containing $198,902 in cash.
The Department of Justice placed the prosecution under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative targeting illegal immigration, cartels, transnational criminal organizations and violent crime. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, federal prosecutors have used the initiative in other cases involving cross-border drug trafficking and money laundering.
The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lesley Brooks prosecuted it, and U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced the sentences.
