Walmart and Sam’s Club announced price reductions on thousands of products this summer, including groceries such as ground beef, fresh produce, beverages and household essentials.
The cuts, part of Walmart’s Rollback program and Sam’s Club offers, took effect last week and apply nationwide at stores, clubs, online and via apps.
Walmart cited its ongoing commitment to value pricing.
Julie Barber, executive vice president and chief merchant at Walmart U.S., said in the company’s announcement that “Customers count on Walmart to deliver the value they need every day, and summer is no exception. This summer, we’re making even more investments in price, with thousands of Rollbacks across the products customers are shopping for most including beef, fresh produce and beverages, grills, pools, toys and summer fashion apparel.”
The retailer described the move as helping families with backyard barbecues, vacations and weekly shopping.
Specific price examples at Walmart stores include:
- 1 lb. 73% ground beef roll, fresh: $5.94, down from $6.74 (12% decrease)
- Fresh sweet corn on the cob: $0.25 each, down from $0.68 (63% decrease)
- Fresh red cherries, 2.25 lb. bag: $5.63, down from $11.18 (50% decrease)
- Great Value ice cream, 48 fl. oz.: $2.50, down from $2.97 (16% decrease)
- Lay’s Classic Potato Chips, 8 oz. bag: $2.50, down from $2.97 (16% decrease)
- Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar 24-packs: $9.97, down from $14.97 (33% decrease)
Sam’s Club lowered prices on more than 250 items, including:
- Member’s Mark 88/12 ground beef: $5.97 per lb., down from $6.17 (3% decrease)
- Member’s Mark bone-in chicken wings: $2.00 per lb., down from $2.88
- Member’s Mark beef hot dogs and other grilling items.
The reductions cover groceries, household essentials (such as laundry detergent and paper plates), outdoor living products, toys and apparel. They are available in stores, at Sam’s Club locations, on Walmart.com, SamsClub.com and through the respective apps, with pickup and delivery options where available.
The price changes are part of Walmart’s longstanding “Everyday Low Price” strategy and represent seasonal investments rather than short-term promotions. Reports indicate they are not limited to specific regions but apply across most U.S. locations.
Impact on shoppers varies. According to USDA data for early 2026, a moderate-cost food plan for a family of four (two adults ages 20-50 and two children ages 6-8 and 9-11) runs about $1,300–$1,400 per month nationally.
The announcement drew public attention from President Donald Trump, who posted on social media on July 6, praising the retailer and claiming it responded to an administration request tied to the nation’s 250th birthday. Walmart’s statement made no reference to the administration.
“Great news! I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday. Walmart will, in particular, be dropping the price for a pound of ground beef by almost 15%, among many other products,” Trump posted.
Walmart and Sam’s Club have not indicated an end date for the specific rollbacks, framing them as summer-focused but consistent with ongoing price investments.
