Fort Worth Receives $2-Million Federal Grant

(WBAP/KLIF) — The City of Fort Worth as one of 34 recipients across the nation to receive SMART grant funding.

The strengthening mobility and revolutionizing transportation grant will be used by city leaders to pilot low altitude weather sensors along freight routes used by autonomous vehicles (AV). Adverse weather conditions pose significant challenges to the performance and safety of driverless vehicles. Microclimate sensors would providing precise, real-time localized weather data, to enable AV’s to adapt to varying weather conditions.

Fort Worth was the only Texas city to receive funding from the federal government through the Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) grant program.
