Dallas Police Chief Orders Internal Investigation After 1 Killed, 8 Injured in Shooting at Party

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia ordered an internal investigation to determine if officers could have handled a shooting call differently after one woman was killed and eight others injured at a party Saturday night.

A shots fired call initially came in around 11:10 p.m. at a gathering in the 4500 block of Collins Avenue east of Fair Park.

The department said when police arrived, the gunfire stopped and the party moved a few streets down but officers stayed nearby.

A second round of shots were fired around 1:35 a.m. when the crowd size grew to around 45 to 50 people. Seven women and two men were taken to nearby hospitals.

21-year-old Coriesha Bradford lost her life. The eight others suffered non-life threatening injuries.

DPD Spokeswoman Kristan Lowman said the department has some idea about what sparked the tragedy.

“Detectives also believe that there is some sort of gang involvement in this incident,” she said.

21-year-old Coriesha Bradford lost her life.

Chief Garcia issued this statement in response to the tragedy:

“I have many questions about what happened last night that led to the death of a 21-year-old woman, and eight people being injured. While the preliminary investigation determined officers who responded did not observe criminal activity among the people in the area at the time, this event ultimately led to tragic consequences.
Our homicide detectives are currently working to determine who was involved in this incident, and how.
I’ve ordered an internal investigation to determine if we could have handled the circumstances of this call differently.
Every day the men and women of this department work to keep our city safe.
It’s important that we gather all the facts before coming to any conclusions.
I am committed to the highest level of accountability, professionalism and transparency for the Dallas Police Department.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Phillip Wheeler at 214-671-3686 or email [email protected].
