School Shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas

(WBAP/KLIF) — Dallas Fire Rescue and Dallas Police responded to a school shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School, Friday, that left one student injured and another one in custody.

The incident occurred just after 10:30 a.m. Friday morning one student was shot in the leg. Police confirm that a suspect was taken into custody at around 11 a.m, That suspect was also a student at the school and knew the victim. According to WFAA reporter Rebecca Lopez, the shooting took place in the “G” building near the school’s football fieldhouse.

Dallas Fire Rescue dispatched six ambulances, and six heavy apparatus trucks to the scene, which has been locked down by Dallas PD and Dallas ISD Police. No other injuries were reported. At 11:15 a.m., DISD released a statement saying “all students and team members are safe” at the school.

Dallas Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Evans confirms that one person was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Wilmer-Hutchins High School is part of Dallas ISD and is located on Langdon Road, near I-45 and I-20.

WFAA reports that it’s not clear at this point how a gun got into the school.
