USPS Searches for Fort Worth Carrier Robber; Offers Up To $150,000 Reward for Info Leading to Arrests

FORT WORTH – (WBAP/KLIF) – The U S Postal Service is tripling rewards for tips that leads to the arrest of criminals robbing and or injuring U S Postal Carriers. Now offering up to $150,000, that amount can be claimed by anyone who tips Postal Inspectors as to the identification of the man accused of robbing a Fort Worth postal carrier March the 15th, around 4:45 pm, at the Slate Apartments on Wellesley Avenue near Hulen Street.

USPS spokesman Sean Smith describes the suspect at the time of the March 15th, 4:45pm robbery in detail: a Black male, about 5’8″ to 5’9″, in his early 20s, with a thin build; at the time of the robbery, wearing a black hoodie with a “Off White” logo, black shorts with a green stripe, and black flip flops. Smith does not reveal if the carrier was injured, or, what may have been taken from the carrier, citing the ongoing investigation.

In response to a growing wave of postal carrier robberies, most crooks seeking “pass keys” that allow carriers to open scores of postal boxes at a time, the USPS instituted “Project Safe Delivery” in May of 2023. Since that time, security upgrades have been installed on 15,000 collection postal collection boxes nationwide, as well as electronic locks installed.

The program seems to be netting an overall decrease in the number of robberies, described as increasing arrests of mail robbery suspects by 73% in the past fiscal year, and in the last five months, reported robberies of letter carriers decreased by 19% and complaints received for mail theft are down 34%. Law enforcement surges in Chicago, San Fransisco, and throughout Ohio have resulted in more than 950 active investigations. The surges include members of the U.S. Department of Justice, Postal Service Office of the Inspector General, other federal agencies, and local law enforcement.
