AAA Texas in Maui for Tourism Re-Opening

(WBAP/KLIF) — AAA-Texas is in Maui to promote travel to the Aloha State as residents continue to suffer the economic disaster following August’s wildfires. The devastating fires that burned parts of Maui two months ago took life, property, and critical income which impacted thousands of Hawaiians.

Now, Doug Shupe with AAA-Texas says the West Maui area is gearing up for a phased tourism re-opening this weekend. The fires caused an immediate 75% drop in tourism, and Shupe says 50% of that travel decline was from the other 49 U.S. states. He says booking a vacation to Hawaii now will save you a lot of money, as travel agencies are offering attractive deals.

A reluctance of travelers to visit Hawaii has had a drastic affect on local residents looking to recover from August’s devastation, and although only West Maui was affected, many travelers canceled trips to the rest of the island. Shupe encourages North Texans to book trips to the island, not only for recreation, but to help locals extremely suffering financially.
